The invention of the internet has greatly increased people ability to share music, by their favourite artist, and recording of themselves. Before the internet the only way to listen to music was to have a physical copy of the recording, such and CD or record, or wait until it was played on the radio or television. However now the just a few clicks people can listen to anything they want.

Many up and coming artist use the internet a lot to get their name and music heard, and talked about. They can do this quite easily and inexpensively because it is quite often free to set up music pages on websites. There are also many competitions run over the internet, aimed at helping rising musicians get help to record and to share their music.

Before the invention of the internet it was almost impossible for small bands and musicians to share their music with the masses.  Unless you had the money to record your music properly and enough to get disk jockeys to play the recordings. The only way to do it cheaply was to get onto a variety show or something similar, this is not an easy thing to do. Now however it is so easy for bands to share their music and to make some money, through the internet. This has led to the “indie” revolution. An indie band is just any band that is unsigned or independent.  I very much enjoy indie music, and without the internet, indie music would not exist.
